Women can now buy the pill online

A medical website has become the first in the UK to give women the option of legally buying the contraceptive pill online.

London based DrThom is offering three months supply of the oral contraceptive pill for £29.99 and says its service will appeal particularly to women who are too busy to visit their GP because of work or childcare commitments.

Initially the service is only for women aged 18 and over who are currently using or have recently used the routine contraceptive pill. They will be able to buy a further three month course of the same contraceptive pill that they are already using or have used before.

Women wanting to buy the pill online will have to fill in a questionnaire about prior use of the Pill, any side-effects, pregnancy, family history of cancer, blood pressure, weight and height.

Further courses of contraceptive pills are available subject to the purchaser having had a blood pressure test. You do not need to visit a doctor to have a blood pressure test - many chemist shops offer them free of charge with no questions asked.

The contraceptive pill has been available over the internet for a number of years, but this is the first time the pill has been sold online by a UK based company. It's likely that other medical websites in the UK will soon be offering a similar contraceptive pill by post service in the near future.
